Westernaires is a precision mounted drill riding group, this blog was used to record my time at Westernaires. I leased a 21 year old quarter horse draft mix named Bo. Prior I rented and rode Stretch, Chey, and GoldDust. My teams were T1, J1 (Top Junior),White Star (Captain), Colorado Stampede (Captain), Nighthorse Rangers, Royal Rangers, Red Liberty, Red Ropes, White Vaulting, White Batons, Jr. Instructor, and Jr. Wrangler. I now ride on the Evergreen Drill Team since I graduated in 2017

I MOVED UP!!!!! Ropes 3 - 22 - 14
I am now officially on WHITE ROPES!!!!!!!!! I am so excited! We checked in at the White Arena and we were going to get to practice in there but BL5 (Blue Liberty 5) came in. Horse specialty over ground specialty so we had to move. We practiced in the space by the stands. Danielle had all of us who wanted to show her our toe dances come by her. Then she checked us off if we could do 5 consistently. Then she had us who passed come over by her. She said," Congratulations you are now on White Ropes!" I am so happy now that I am officially moved up. I get to be in the White Division shows this year!!!! AHHHH!!!!! I moved up with at least 4 of my friends so that is awesome. We stayed and practiced at the far end. I saw Utah Girl in liberty!!! She shied away from the jump the first time but the second time she pulled an amazing jump. I love that horse. I can finally do Hopscotch! I couldn't get it so I went to ask Danielle and I did it perfectly. Lol. Whatever hahaha. It was snowing pretty hard when I left. I went to the Wrangling table to pick up my test. I scored 47/49. Pretty good! I will not be able to make it to our ride next week so I will not be posting. :( I will be out of town. Sad day. I will write in 4 weeks for WHITE ROPES!

Last Jr. Wrangler Class
Today was testing day!!! When we arrived we talked about wrangler uniform. Us Jr. Wranglers will wear our practice uniform with a green bandanna. Then we got our horse identification sheets. It was a packet of paper numbered 1 - 132 or something. So we went out to the pastures. All the horses were tied up and with numbers on their necks or butts. The halters did not match either. So we just went at our own pace and identified as many as we could. I got a lot of them! Then we went and took the written test. It was basically about 10 multiple choice questions and some on mustangs. We also had to name one horse from each category of color. Then was horse parts, saddle parts, and bridle parts. That's basically all there was too it. Then we got to groom and saddle. They let us pick our horses! I got Winddancer! She did not have her pretty halter though because they were all mixed up. I forgot how much I love this horse. She literally lets you do anything! I groomed and saddled. She got a new saddle! It is so pretty and looks great on her! Then I bridled and put her support boots on. We did have to call for groom checks and tack checks. I had a ton of time afterwards so I brushed her mane and tail. Then I just played around with her face and messed around. We can find out our test scores this Saturday and we won't be able to get our green bandannas from the store until they send them the list of who has passed. I also bought my Pasture Book. Here are some pictures!

Rides 3 - 15 - 14
Wow. I am sooooo tired. Today was windy and cold. I hate the weather. It is literally picture perfect beautiful weather all week and then on Saturdays it turns bad. Anyway I had an interesting morning. For J1 I got AC #27 he is so cute! Something about his face. He is awful for grooming. He bites, kicks, won't stand still. It took forever! I finally had him all saddled and bridled. Then I went and got people's bridles. I came back and my horse was gone.... Help? A wrangler came and told me that a Red Team horse threw a shoe so they needed AC. So they got me a horse who was already saddled and bridled. Maddie #13. When the brought the door to the arena up she spooked. She shied away and was prancing. I was completely calm so she calmed down pretty quick. The ride was pretty good. The arenas were REALLY muddy. So no loping :( I was really sad because Maddie is SO GOOD! But it is probably in the best interests of the horses and riders. Maddie has a really nice trot and she responds so quick. I really liked her. A lot. We learned how to do a do si do. It is really fun! You come a crossed the arena like you were going to do a pass through but instead, you and your partner(s) turn left and circle each other then continue. It was really cool. Then J1 had to go clean. I didn't care because it was out of the wind. LOL. For White Star the wind died down a little but not much. I got Hunter #23. He is SPAZY!!!! We mounted up and did warm ups for a while. Then Brittany and Aline called us to the center. They told us line up. How line up works is they say last names. You go 4, 3, 2, 1 for each four. Guess what I got to ride!? 1-1!!!!!! I got to call again! I love it so much!!!!!!!!! Hunter is bouncy! Oh my goodness! He listens well though just have to check and release a lot. Our drill was awful today. We were a mess. We had a almost crash in Mariner's Cross. We actually got Out of Circle today! I was so happy! It wasn't too bad but it was not pretty. Diagramming consisted of a team criticizing and going through the study guide. I can earn a total of 4.375 points back. I only missed 8.75 on my quizzes so that's why. Then I watched the Crimson Rangers and Royal Rangers rides. I love watching Red Division. It was an exhausting day. But pretty fun too. Here are pictures.

Friday Night Grooming
So I went to grooming last night. They did not let us pick our horses and I ended up with Maverick #70. I helped so many kids find their horses in the pasture that I was the last one out. Maverick was alright. He was a little fussy. I spent most of the class practicing wrangling. I helped Clorox the horses feet and went around helping kids. Many were needing help because it was testing night. Overall it was a good class for wrangling. Here is Maverick.

Jr. Wrangler Class #5
MUDDY!!! That's all I have to say about wrangling. We learned about the Divisions of Westernaires and the Red Team horses. We all got individual horses today so that was kind of nice. I got Dusty #44. She was special for the first half. She stood great for grooming minus bucking at the other horses. When we got to the feet. She would try to bite me on the front left. Once I finally got that one I went for the back hoof. She ended up kicking me. I moved out of the way fast enough she didn't hit me very hard so I was fine. Probably won't even bruise :( Anyway so they brought up a retired horse named Dick. Apparently that is Dusty's boyfriend. It was like she was a whole different horse. She was great. Didn't like the cinch very much but was an angel for bridling! I learned how to do shorties and brushed her mane and tail. Then was horse ID. After that we learned how the test next week will work. I feel pretty prepared for it. That was all! Now to clean all the mud out of my pants. Eeekk!!!!

Practice Grooming
So tonight I went to the grooming class to practice. It was fun. The bonus about practicing is that you can pick your horse. I tried Wyoming, Winddancer, Utah Girl but they were all taken. So I tried Keno and he was available. So once again I groomed Keno. Lol. He is such a good boy. It was dark and snowing so finding him took forever!!! I was also practicing my wrangling skills and helping some Hoedowners and Trailblazers find there horses. Grooming was interesting because Keno and all the others were sopping wet! It was really hard to get all the dirt off. Even though there wasn't that much. He was great for hooves and saddling. He is a little stubborn with the bridle. You just have to be consistent and he opens up just fine. I finished really early so I brushed his mane and tail. Then I just played around with him a little bit. Wyoming and Winddancer were right next to each other so I went and said hello to them as well. When the class was over, a Red Division girl came and put two of us that were practicing to work. We got to clean up all the poop in the arena. I didn't mind. I love everything about horses :) I am so tired and because I have no ropes tomorrow I actually get to sleep in. Sleep!? On a Saturday!? Is this even possible? Lol I will write Sunday for Wrangling.

Decorated My Flag Boot.. Again
So at wrangling today I just added some pink duck tape to make it White Star colors. Here is the picture
Jr. Wrangler Class #4
So today we learned about Horse Behavior, Mustangs, and Quick Grooming. For grooming I got Flit #50. I got to groom by myself so that was kind of nice :). Flit is a little bay mare. She is sweet but very fast. She is very feisty and ornery too. She is easy to find in the pasture because she has a lot of brands on her butt. I could not get the bridle on her but a Wrangler showed me a trick for horses like her. After we were done grooming we did horse ID. Man there was a lot today. We did Bay's, Grey's, and Roan's. 39 total of those colors. A few exceptions like Sally who is a Dun came as well for horse behavior. After that we all let our horses loose in the Red. We sat in the stands and watched their behavior and who hung out with who. It was actually really interesting! Half of them just started rolling and some just wandered around. Brutus and Dakota are definitely very high on the pecking order. Sally and Guy stuck together as well as Ashley and Strawberry. Then we went back in and just grabbed any horse. I got Keno #15. Then we took them back and we were done. It was really tiring but fun. We did horse ID for

Rides 3 - 1 - 14
Wow today was COLD and SNOWY!!!! For Junior 1 I got Ashley #71! She is such a sweetheart I love her a ton. Thankfully she was standing right by the entrance to the pasture but when I offered her water she drank forever! I was freezing! Mostly it was my toes and fingers. I was the first one in the arena so I got the grooming spot right by the door. We rode inside today. All the dirt was frozen so picking Ashley's feet was difficult. Junior Grand Entry Tryouts were today. Congrats to the J1 riders who were chosen! Those of us who weren't trying out rode with Triple A team Colorado Stampede. It was pretty fun. I am so in love with Ashley's trot. It is great! When we lead them to drink. After we had to put blankets on them. Then I got something to eat and checked in for White Star. We went outside and got our horses. I got Utah Girl #92. She is a white horse and she had a really pretty purple saddle blanket with a pink and black halter. We rode down to our arena. We warmed up with some drill work. Utah is soooo good! She responds to little cues and listens so well! We got to lope in 4's!!! My group did really well. Then we lined up for our drill. I rode 4-2 for our first drill. It was a mess! We finally got the hang of it and we loped our propeller! I was 1 from the outside so I got to lope! It was so much fun! After our first drill we lined up. I was placed at 3-1. We did much better the second time around! When we go to the propeller... 3-1 is on the outside! I was running propeller! Oh my gosh! Utah Girl is so great! She collects her lope and listened to me. We were a great team and we had a great run on the outside of the propeller! AHHH so much fun! After that we walked up to the arena and tied the horses after water and blanketing. I went to the store and bought my belt and hat for my costume. Now all I need is new white jeans. Then was diagramming. We got all corrections back. I got 34.5 on Quiz 7. Not Bad!!! We mostly had a study session. We could work on diagrams, sequences, or our study guide. I was in the back helping people fill out their study guides. Then was costuming. One of the girls who dropped costume fit me perfect. So I just got her costume so it was pretty quick. We had 33 girls or so to begin with. We are down to 26 right now. We will see how many are left come White Olympics.
